Youth Police Academy - Learning Program

What exactly does a police officer do? How can I become one? Kids ages 9-12 can join the Roanoke County Police Department beginning Tuesday, October 6th in this six week program that will give you hands on experience in everything from learning how evidence is collected, seeing a dispatcher in action, meeting the K-9 unit and seeing the inside of real police cruiser! Medieval Faire Featuring 2-Days of Highland Games

Experience the adventure, pageantry, magic and romance of medieval times THIS WEEKEND at Roanoke County’s Green Hill Park at the Green Hill Medieval Faire. On Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM upon the spacious verge you will find fluttering flags and festive tentage of merchants offering wares from mystical lands and times. Revisit history made reality as the living history exhibitors display life as it was in the Middle Ages. Come witness the Scottish horsemanship and sword fighting which are among the many favorite forms of medieval entertainment. Smell the luscious aroma of roasted meats, tasty breads and delicious treats near the tavern pavilion. Throughout the day, you will witness laughter, music and merriment, colorful dancers, nobles, ladies, knights, and of course the most noble of all creatures the regal greyhounds. Festive tents line the lawn with gifts, garb and wonders galore.

Due to its past popularity the Highland Games are back and have been expanded into a full two days of excitement! You can witness incredible feats of strength and endurance by some of the best athletes around. Athletes of varying skill levels will compete in seven challenging and varied categories. On Saturday beginning at 5 PM a Masquerade Ball will be held at no extra charge, dress for the ball if you so desire and learn the refined art of hand kissing, engage in the wooing contest and learn the dances from days of old charm.
Each day children of all ages are invited to play imaginative games such as Ratapult, Sheep Toss, Dragon Droppings, Unicorn Ring Toss, Boar Hunt, and Pole Jousting. You may also test your prowess at the archery range and ax throw. Take a step back into time, bring the whole family and make a little “history of your own”!

Adobe Photoshop Class - October 2

This workshop will cover beginner uses of Adobe Photoshop including the following: familiarization with the overall product, manipulation of layers, use of levels adjustments to correct color, keyboard shortcuts, using the tools pallette, basic filter usage, blending properties, alpha channels, text, gradients, creating image cutouts, creating animated .gifs, and setting up automated batch processes. Graves Mountain Lodge Trip - SeveralSpaces Left
