Workout to Wipeout Hunger Collects 116 Items
On Thursday night, the wellness center at Green Ridge Recreation Center hosted their first annual Workout to Wipeout Hunger. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the charity Feeding America, Southwest Virginia. Participants worked out from 6 to 8pm in a variety of class formats - Boot Camp, Step and Cycle. They had a good time and collected two bins for the hungry, with 116 items ranging from canned goods and rice to tea and peanut butter. Thanks also goes to instructors Steve, Laura and Nita for putting on a fantastic class.
Department Honored With Two Summit Awards
Roanoke County's department of Parks Recreation and Tourism was honored with two Gold Summit Awards this week by the Public Relations Society of America. One award was for Summer Camp Preview Flyers distributed to area public schools last February, and the second award was for television commercials produced last Fall to announce the opening of Green Ridge Recreation Center. Both awards were given in the "modest" budget category.

Added Green Ridge Pool Hours Next Week
Green Ridge is closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 25. However, in addition to our normal hours, we are extending the indoor pool hours on other days that week as follows:
Wednesday, November 24 - All pool features open 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Thursday, November 25 - Closed for Thanksgiving
Friday, November 26 - All pool features open 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Interactive Game Room Tournaments!
Visit the Green Ridge activity room on most Friday nights or Saturday afternoons to play interactive games for prizes! Our next event is Saturday, November 27.Play to win a $25 gift card for only $3/members or $5/non-members! Participants will challenge each other to double elimination tournaments in 2 categories: ages 9-13 or ages 14-17. A winner from each age group will win a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart. If there are not enough participants in an age group, the may be combined together. Please pre-register for these events! 1st Friday of the month will be Dance Dance Revolution; 1st Saturday of the month will be Playstation: Madden Football; 2nd Fri. will be a Wii Tournament (game chosen by participants); 2nd Sat. will be Makoto (individual); 3rd Fri. will be Tony Hawk; 3rd Sat. will be Dance Dance Revolution again; 4th Fri. will be Dodgeball on the PlayFloor; and 4th Sat. will be another Wii Tournament (game chosen by participants). Workout to Wipeout Hunger - Thursday Night
Join us at Green Ridge Recreation Center on thursday from 6-8pm. Instructors Steve, Laura and Nita will lead a special 2-hour Workout! Cycle, Step, Boot Camp - something for everyone! This event will benefit Feeding America, Southwest Virginia, whose Food Bank agencies serve more than 100,000 hungry men, women and children across Southwest Virginia every month. You must sign-up at the Wellness Desk to participate, and, bring a food donation item(s) to class. Class size is limited to the first 40 registrants. Most needed foods are: canned meals, canned meats, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, soups, dry beans, rice, etc. Help make a difference this Holiday Season! Stained Glass Frame - Wednesday Night
Use up some of your stained glass scraps while learning how to make picture frames. This is a unique handcrafted gift idea. You must have prior knowledge of stained glass to enter this class.
