No Fireworks At Green Hill Park

In recent years, The Freedom Center church has presented July 4th fireworks at Green Hill Park. The church has decided not to have a fireworks display this year. There are several alternative fireworks shows throughout the area including displays visible at Vinyard Park in Vinton and River's Edge Sports Complex in the City of Roanoke. Please see local media outlets for detals about these and other events.

We were really disappointed to show up at Greenhill park for fireworks and there were not any. Not everyone, especially older people have access to the internet or even know where to look for information. There should have been a sign posted stating no fireworks at the entrance to the park. Roanoke.com website still listed there would be fireworks, food and live bands. By the time all the people waited to see if the fireworks were going to happen, it was too late to go anywhere else to watch. You really dropped the ball on this. I had a friend come 50 miles to watch our fireworks. Very disappointed.

We're terribly sorry about your experience at the park. Roanoke County had nothing to do with the decision to hold or not to hold fireworks there, and I am quite surprised to hear that it was published on www.Roanoke.com. The event was completely organized and carried out by a local church. We will do some investigation into how and why it was published in the paper.
