Green Recreation Opportunities

The combination of gas prices, an upcoming election and natural disasters have spurred a tremendous interest in "Going Green." When you think about it, recreation can be extremely bad for the enviornment. Just think about how many miles you drove over the summer to get to the beach, or how much oil was burned on your last cruise to Bermuda. The Fall theme for Roanoke County's recreation programs is "Play Close to Home." For some of us, hard economic times have made that motto a necessity. Whether or not you can afford a long trip out of town, many Roanoke Valley residents are not aware of the recreation opportunities available close to home! That's what this blog is all about.
Let's be perfectly honest.... I am the marketing manager for a small government agency. The whole point of this blog is to get you to visit our site. Putting that aside, how many times have you driven accross town to the shopping mall out of boredom alone. Why not spend that time in a park, or taking a fitness class? On your next vacation, why not consider a group bus trip instead of driving there yourself. You'll save gas, reduce stress, and maybe even make a new friend along the way. Plus, you'll feel better about yourself for doing a small part to save the earth!
