Use a GPS device to find hidden gold, silver and bronze tokens all over the County! Join us for an exciting geocacheing event that kicks off Saturday at noon at Garst Mill Park. Registration will run from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM. A limited number of GPS units will be available to those who do not bring their own and a $150 deposit will be required for their use. Deposit can be either a personal check or cash and will be returned upon the safe return of the GPS unit. Instruction on how to operate the units will be held at 11:00 AM.

Ten scenic and /or historic sites within Roanoke County will be the destinations for this treasure hunt. Longitudes and latitudes will be given and you will have from noon until 5 PM to complete the treasure hunt. You may compete as an individual/family or in student teams. At each site there will be one box for individuals/families and another box for student teams. Inside each box lies your "treasure". The treasure consists of three different colored coins; gold, silver and bronze. There will be one gold coin, one silver coin and 10 bronze coins in each box. There are point values assigned to each different colored coin. The object will be to accumulate as many points as possible but you can only take one coin from each location. Gold coins are valued at 10 points, silver at 5 points and bronze at 1 point. All participants must return to Garst Mill Park no later than 5 PM on event day for the tallying of points and the announcing of winners.
